The New Canaan High School Madrigal Ensemble, under the direction of Arthur Sjogren, consists of twenty-eight talented, hard-working and dedicated young people from New Canaan, Connecticut, USA.

Performing in sixteenth century costumes, the Madrigal Ensemble’s extensive choral repertoire includes medieval to contemporary motets, operatic excerpts, madrigals of the Renaissance, American spirituals and folk songs from many nations. They sing a cappella in many languages, including English.

The students have performed for schools, service organizations, corporations, churches, choral festivals and at ambassadorial receptions. Over the past twenty-six years, the Madrigal Ensemble has been on 15 overseas concert tours. In each country they have been extremely well-received, and the experience of touring has provided the students with a unique insight into the customs and cultures of other nations. Their experiences have been further enriched by staying with host families and attending classes with local students.

Enthusiastic comments received from abroad following past tours have noted that “the singers were truly of professional quality and representative of the best of youth in every respect” and that “they most surely qualify as goodwill ambassadors of musical excellence.”
